England to Begin the European Championship 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground
The English squad will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they attain the anticipated entry for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.
City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s fixture since May 2016, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to stage the national team for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.
The English side are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their knockout stage opener would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Kickoff and Rally
The championship was unveiled at an gathering in central London on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the organizing bodies were heckled as they approached the venue by approximately 50 activists, who urged Israel’s national side to be removed from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Fixture List
The opening game of the tournament will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a game that will involve the Dragons if they secure a place.
Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to households and help engage a more diverse set of audiences.
Qualifying Teams
The Ireland are scheduled to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the qualification path.
Venues and Knockout Stage
Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena complete the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches staged at every host’s main arena.
The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.
