Fury Erupts as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Director Rob Reiner Ignites Sharp Rebuke

Personalities from across the political divide and the entertainment world are coming together to condemn Donald Trump for his remarks following the shocking passing of renowned director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Social Media Post

Following the discovery of the couple dead at their Brentwood residence, Trump posted on social media to describe the deceased director as "anguished and struggling". The message, he claimed Reiner's death was "because of the hostility he provoked others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, contrasting Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "unprecedented era of America".

Police Update and Arrest

Authorities have since announced the arrest of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in relation to the case. It is reported his bond was established at a substantial sum.

A Wave of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's post was immediate and harsh.

This is a vile and despicable statement,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, also criticized the statements. Goldberg referenced previous rhetoric from Trump regarding the killing of an activist, asking, "Do you have no decency? Can you get any lower?"

The state of California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly wrote, "This is a disturbed man."

Echoing this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "He is a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "Trump has just crossed a line. Now saying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own demise because they opposed him. So sick."

Criticism from His Own Political Ranks

A number of GOP lawmakers also expressed dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about political feuds or political enemies". Greene also mentioned struggles with substance abuse and mental health some families face.

Fellow Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "unacceptable and disgraceful" given the circumstances. He openly dared members in his party to defend the comments.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal critic of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule should Trump return to power.

"There is authoritarianism making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "If we crumble, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Regardless of his pointed criticisms, Reiner had previously expressed "complete revulsion" and condemned political violence unequivocally after the killing of a different individual.

A Notable Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a element of historical irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the artist who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the story of the photo shoot, noting Trump's demand for "special hairspray" while posing on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
