Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.
“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”
It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.
“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”
NYPD shared video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.
The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.
He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.
Boyd continued to be present all season long while working his way back.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
