Both have been linked with the manager's job at the Premiership title holders following the former manager's departure on the start of the week.

McKenna's Position on Celtic

McKenna referred to Celtic as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy twelfth place in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish youth international said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is this week.

"I possess a special job here at a special club. And we're at a crucial phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about these. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive football club."

McKenna signed a new four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this role like I will remain Town's coach forever. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

Bellamy played for Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is inclined to finish the ongoing World Cup campaign, a stance that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

Wales are presently in third place in their World Cup group behind leaders the Red Devils and second-placed Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in November would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of making those, thanks to a productive European competition campaign, even if they not end up their group runners-up.

Considering his present stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the minimum.
