Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He stated, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
