The British player made it to the third stage in three of the four major tournaments this year.

The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her final two events this season as a result of a health issue she has been fighting over the past 10 days.

The 22-year-old was due to play in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to regain her health ahead of launching plans for the 2026 season.

Her upcoming training will include trainer Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering again next season.

Raducanu had her blood pressure taken while playing the initial match with Ann Li in Wuhan and withdrew when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.

She again required medical attention at this week's Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.

Raducanu was also moving noticeably restricted in the deciding set in the match with Zhu owing to the lower back problem that has troubled her during parts of the season.

Such performances signaled a promising season, in which the player advanced into the international top 30 after a long gap for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats.

She held three match points then was defeated by Pegula in the third round in Beijing last month.

Raducanu won 28 victories this year and advanced to the semis in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March.

As Britain's top player reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed on the way then falling in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth.

Her coach was Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role ahead of the US Open.

The first plan with the former trainer of Nadal was for the remainder of the year but the partnership will continue, with a training block pencilled in late this year.

Raducanu told that the trial session alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.

She nearly succeeded to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati in August.

Roig joined her in New York, where she made the third stage before being beaten by Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
