The original creators of the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated how parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he will independently develop this new flavor within an individual series highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's has been barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Between Founders versus Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing tension among the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods giant that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders maintain how the parent company and its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Flavor as an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated via social media how he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting public suggestions regarding the product's name and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become an emblem of support for Palestinians because of its colors, that match the colors in Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement plus Recent Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in Unilever selling their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming product line will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which originally established several years back to support former political contender Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes and Future Plans

The founder stated how he plans to develop other ice cream flavors focusing on issues that the company was silenced from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's in September, following many years with the organization, citing concerns regarding how the company's autonomy was compromised after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated that "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles which established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
