The network's Top New Show of This Year Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family go about their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
