People have come together around the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led assault on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.

The attack resulted in over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the goals of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled state memorials until mid-October - after the completion of the festive season - but events still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised on Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, both sides' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a second day of indirect talks to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A senior representative knowledgeable about the talks indicated that an late session of negotiations started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative stated the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, because of differences over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not recommence hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "challenging and have yet to deliver any major advancement," but mentioned that facilitators are working hard to reduce the disparities between the both parties.

Critical Matters in Discussions

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The swap of the hostages still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid distribution
  • After-conflict governance of the area

Civilian Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, young Hagar - whose family member endured the attack on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were murdered and numerous more were captured by Hamas gunmen - explained: "Nowhere seems like home anymore and until every captive come back none of us will be secure."

"Once we see all home again, we can breathe anew. Then we can commence recover," she continued.

In front of the leader's home in the capital, people congregated to show their backing for the families of the abducted. Israel says 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be surviving.

Activist one woman explained: "We must do every compromise required for the hostages to return. But we truly desire assurances that we will be protected."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that around 70% of Israelis desire the war to end in return for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of the gathering, grieving people came together to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of military attacks and explosions could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the main city, attacks were noted in the morning of that day in the western district, sector and locality districts and in the eastern district of the community, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"As the dusk arrives, the dread appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack previously, explained.

"We are fearful of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, embracing, particularly my smallest child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Every second we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be achieved and that the fighting will come back to us."

Health Emergency

The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had received the corpses of six people by the midday, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

A different healthcare center in the south region of the city indicated another two fatalities had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for aid to the southern area, medics said.
