This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
